a world, with your wound in it.

Possession of humanity, possession of land, possession of language, possession as a divine act that connects us with the gods, possession as a tool to severe us from them:
‘a world, with your wound in it’ is a transcending embodiment work from artist Jahra Wasasala and her collaborators.

Within ‘a world, with your wound in it’, Jahra explores the tension between being a vessel for other voices, traditions and ideologies whilst attempting to reclaim a quiet humanity.
Questioning the possessor within and building a new world within a violently occupied physical form.

Said to be ‘equal parts ritual, performance art, poetry, dance and deep cultural practice’ including unique costuming and featuring visuals from acclaimed artist Pati Solomona Tyrell, ‘a world, with your wound in it’ is a poetically jarring and emotionally-stirring activation that breaks the earth, cracks open the audience’s chest, confronts the possessor within us and then reckons with what is left.

I have exhausted my possessor, whoever she is.
She is tired of me, and if she is tired of me, then what is left?

“As she cracks open her human form, I am stunned at the mental and physical state that she showcases every time she performs. I see a soul, not a body.”

“[Jahra’s] solo work, a world with your wound in it, ‘happened’ in the loft space at Q Theatre
and I say ‘happened’, because ‘performed’ is too small a word for what we saw..
It’s equal parts ritual, performance art, poetry, dance, and deep, deep cultural practice..
She’s beyond superb in her execution.”
